It has been a full year now since we moved from the city to an acreage. It isn’t easy to say the least. It is work. It takes time. We miss friends and the convivence of just going down the street for something you forget at the store. Yet, you adjust…time moves more slow, way less stress of the business of the city. You plan ahead if you do go into town to get a lot more done. You find you don’t want to leave as often. I was a homebody before but now I really do like being home.
Creating new friendships is more challenging as you are not right next door. So you have to be intentional about creating the friendships. You have to put yourself out there more when you go to community events and programs.
Our extended animal family has grown. When we first moved we had a cat and a turtle. Now we have 3 dogs, 10 chickens and recently 2 Kunekune Piglets. So our day is full of animal adventures. Dogs encounters with Porcupines. Now a red fox is coming onto the property, so the dogs chase it away when they see it. It is moments like these when you really get in sync with nature.
We have tilled a new garden space, changing the fencing around the property. Cleaning up old sheds and eventually tearing some down.
For the rest of this year we wont be introducing any more animals. (I say that now but who knows!) We will be focusing our attention on landscaping and beautifying the areas around the main house. It takes time. We had a slow start to Spring.
We are content to enjoy the summer and the adventures it will bring. It is amazing how the year has gone by so fast.
What have you accomplished this past year? What is your next step for the coming year?
Love to hear your comments.
Have a great day!
Brenda
